LYNN-Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute will hold a career expo for elementary and middle school students this week, culminating with a public fair for potential students and their families Saturday morning.Like past years, the career expo for potential students will take place during the week, but for the first time, the expo will be open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 7 so that parents may have an opportunity to learn more about the school at a time when many people do not have to work.Tech officials are hoping that by opening up the career fair to the public and giving parents a first-hand look at the academic, vocational and career training opportunities for students they can show families that the school is the “hidden gem of the North Shore.”Elementary and middle school students from Pickering, Marshall, Breed, Ford Cobbett, Connery and area private schools will attend the career expo Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, but organizers say that they are strongly encouraging students to return with their parents on Saturday morning between 8:30 and noon for an opportunity to view what the school has to offer.Every vocational shop and program in the school will have a display area, demonstrating everything from shed construction to car diagnostics and the robotics program at the school.Pizza will be served at the Saturday event and some shops are also working on homemade prizes for a door raffle. To encourage parents to come, the school is offering the middle school homeroom with the most parent attendance at Saturday’s open house a special prize. The open house and career fair will take place from 8:30-noon Saturday, Feb. 7 in the LVTI Field House on Neptune Boulevard.
