LYNN – The SCI Lynn Citywide Youth Council is seeking middle and high school volunteers with an interest to strengthen the community through diversity and civic engagement.The program, coordinated by SCI Lynn and sponsored by the Amelia Peabody Foundation, Cabot Family Charity Trust, Foley Hoag Foundation and Massachusetts Service Alliance, will meet every other week after school to lead community service and civic engagement projects, including park cleanups and resource fairs.The council also offers an opportunity for participants to enhance leadership skills through the use of SCI’s civic skills checklist that includes lessons on public speaking and event management.SCI, or Social Capitol Incorporated, is a community service organization with offices in Lynn, Woburn and Dorchester. The organization offers programs for youth and adults through community service and leadership programs including Connecting Citizens to Information and Developing Community Leaders.Applications are available for download at scilynn.org, or can be picked up at the SCI Lynn Office at 52 Andrew St., at Straight Ahead Ministries, Family and Children’s Services, Girls Incorporated and the Greater Lynn YMCA.Applications must be returned to the SCI office or emailed to Mallory Burns at [email protected] by Monday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. Anyone with questions can email Burns or call 781-599-1269.
