LYNN – Both the City Council and School Committee have postponed their regularly scheduled meetings for this week as municipal employees continue to brace for massive layoffs due to budget cuts. The School Committee was scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss teacher layoffs, budget cuts and potentially vote on a furlough day for teachers, but vacations and health issues have sidelined several members and forced the meeting to be rescheduled. With Mayor Edward J. Clancy Jr. out of town this week, committee member Vincent Spirito vacationing in Aruba and member John Ford suffering from minor health issues, only four of the seven members would have been in attendance for the meeting Thursday.Because there are so many important issues on the agenda, Superintendent Catherine Latham, Vice Chair Patricia Capano and Committee Secretary Thomas Iarrobino have agreed to reschedule the meeting for next Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. When all members can be present in the school administration building. The City Council announced last week that tonight’s scheduled meeting would be postponed until next Tuesday, Feb. 17 where the council will also hold a bond hearing.
