LYNN – It takes some singer-songwriters an entire career to get on the stage at such a prestigious location as Boston’s Symphony Hall, but one Lynn Classical High School student will achieve that dream at an early age thanks to a strong performance in the recent Ma-ssachusetts All-State Vocal Competition.Junior Juliana Davis is one of app-roximately 150 high school students from across the state who have been chosen to perform on the stage of Symphony Hall due to their good performance in the vocal competition – beating out a pool of 1,800 other high school musicians for the honor.Davis, who missed the honor by just two points from the judges last year, said she is excited for the chance to perform on the stage for the first time and credits her new vocal teacher at Classical Laura Weiss.”She (Weiss) has really helped me a lot, I appreciate it,” she said. “This will be my first time. I missed districts by two points last year.”Davis says she has been singing since she learned how to talk and aspires to be a professional singer-songwriter, although she rarely performs her original work.Through a partnership between the Lynn Public Schools and the Handel & Hayden Society of Boston, Davis is also receiving coaching on a scholarship from the New England Conservatory.”A lot of it was due to the coaching she got here, especially from Mrs. Weiss,” said Fine Arts Director Joe Picano. “It is also from the coaching that she gets from the New England Conservatory through the partnership with the Lynn Public Schools.Davis is not the first student from the music department to appear on stage at Symphony Hall, as students from all of the city’s high schools have a storied past in the New England District Competition. The Lynn Public Schools also have a partnership with the Boston Symphony Orchestra that has afforded the students opportunities to perform on stage with the orchestra in the past.
