REVERE – A brave store clerk is credited with stopping an armed robbery at a Revere Street convenience store on Saturday by chasing away the suspect with a broom, police said.It was at least the 14th robbery that has occurred in the city since the start of 2009. So far, police have arrested two people in connection with two of the robberies.Police say the unidentified employee took a broom and charged at the suspect, who was holding a handgun, out of One Stop Convenience at 345 Revere St. at about 7 p.m. Saturday. The suspect then hopped into an awaiting getaway car without taking any money, police said. No arrests were made.About 30 minutes later, police said someone robbed Anthony’s Market at 760 Broadway. However, that incident was not reported to police until Sunday night and a report of the incident was not available Monday.The suspect who robbed One Stop Convenience is described as 18 to 24 years old, approximately 5-foot-7 and 100 pounds, wearing a red bandanna and a black cap. He allegedly entered the store, pulled out a small silver handgun, pointed it at the clerk and said in a raspy voice, “Fill up the bag? Put all the money in the bag.” Numerous customers and at least two other employees were in the store and took cover as the robbery was occurring.The robbery is the latest in a string that is plaguing city residents and police. On Wednesday, a man pulled a silver handgun on an employee of Hess gas station on Squire Road and ran away with cash. The same business was robbed at knifepoint on Jan. 29.Police are investigating robberies that occurred since Dec. 31 at Store 24 on Shirley Avenue, 7-Day Convenience Store in Beachmont, Tobie’s Jewlery on Shirley Avenue, CVS on Squire Road and Orange Grove Convenience on Shirley Avenue, among other locations. No arrests were made in any of the incidents.Police made two arrests on Feb. 8 when three robberies occurred in one day. Tyron Minardi, 26, of East Boston, allegedly pointed a gun at a Bill Ashe’s bartender and was arrested moments after employees called police. Thomas Twoguns, 24, of Revere, allegedly attacked a man with a knife and attempted to rob him outside the Wonderland train station.
