The Lynn Tech football team will look to move to 3-0 on the young season Friday when it hosts Minuteman under the lights at Manning Field. The Tigers have beaten Dorchester and Marian this year, doing it in drastically different fashions. The opening win was a defensive battle while Saturday’s win over the Mustangs saw Tech run off 342 yards of total offense and take a 36-12 lead before Marian added a pair of late scores to make it 36-24.”We’ve had good all-around play from everyone so far,” Tech coach Gary Sverker said. “That first half on Saturday was probably the best that we’ve played so far this season.”Steven Caisse and Ryan Murphy were the ringleaders in helping the Tigers put up their best offensive output of the season. The two running backs combined for 291 yards and all five Tech touchdowns.”We got a lot of big plays against Marian,” Sverker said. The Tiger defense also was outstanding against Marian’s spread attack. Tech held the Mustangs to only 94 yards on the ground, and though quarterback Miguel Ortiz threw for 205 yards, he was picked off three times.”The kids have been working hard and have been playing hard,” Sverker said.Tech will face another team that works out of the spread in Minuteman. But it doesn’t seem like Minuteman will be airing it out 38 times like the Mustangs did.”They run the same type of offense as Marian, but they like to run power out of it,” Sverker said. “And the quarterback isn’t quite as good as the one Marian had.”Winthrop at GloucesterAt Newell Stadium (7), two of the Northeastern Conference’s premier running backs – Gloucester’s Conor Ressel and Winthrop’s Nick McCarthy – will lock horns in a non-conference matchup. The Fishermen come in at 2-0 and off a 40-21 win over Andover that saw Ressel dominate the Golden Warrior defense to the tune of 221 yards and four rushing touchdowns in three quarters of work. Quarterback Brett Cahill threw for one score and rushed for another to complement Ressel.Winthrop (1-1) will be looking to rebound from a 33-21 loss at the hands of English. The Vikings saw two long touchdowns called back because of penalties and were victimized by the Bulldogs’ big-play offense.McCarthy took a kick back 81 yards for one touchdown and added a 59-yard punt return for a second score.Lynnfield at WilmingtonAt Wilmington (7), the Pioneers look to start the season at 3-0 as they hit the road for a second straight week against the Wildcats. Lynnfield comes in off a 32-6 win over Georgetown in which the Royals were limited to just 108 yards of total offense.Gino Cohee rushed for one touchdown and caught a pass from Chris Grassi for a second in the win. Grassi also rushed for a score and returned a punt 33 yards for a third touchdown.Medford at FenwickAt Donaldson Field in Peabody (7), the Crusaders (1-1) will look for a second straight win following a 6-0 win over Salem last week. Alex Crecco was the hero, rushing for the winning score late in the final period. The Mustangs, meanwhile, come in at 1-0 after dismantling Revere, 33-0, in their opener.Revere at DanversAt Deering Stadium (7), a battle between the NEC North and South divisions is on tap as the Falcons look to move to 3-0 while the Patriots will try to rebound from a 33-0 shellacking at the hands of Medford.Danvers (2-0) was down 7-0 entering the fourth quarter against Pentucket last week, but got a seven-yard run from Eric Burgos to tie the game before Greg Ladd threw a five-yard pass to Dan Skinner to give the Falcons the lead and the 14-7 win.
