DURHAM, N.H. – Police arrested a 21-year-old Lynnfield man for drug possession after breaking up a booze-fueled brawl at a fraternity house near the University of New Hampshire campus.UNH student Kevin Mahoney and Corey McCosh, 19, of Merrimack, N.H., were subdued at gunpoint and arrested by Durham police officers responding to the Phi Beta Gamma frat house early Sunday morning.According to a published report, McCosh took out a knife during a brawl on the frat’s front lawn around 2:50 a.m. and threatened another individual with it. Police arrived on scene and McCosh allegedly handed off the weapon to another man present. The knife remained visible to the officers and both men were brought down and handcuffed.It remains unclear at this time as to whether Mahoney was the man to whom McCosh allegedly handed off the knife. There were no other arrests at the scene and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.At present, Mahoney has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. No other details of his arrest are available.McCosh was booked at the Strafford County Jail Sunday afternoon, charged with felony criminal threatening with a deadly weapon and one count of underage drinking.The Phi Beta Gamma fraternity is reportedly an “unrecognized group” with its ties to the university severed after an incident in which two new members were hospitalized for alcohol consumption.Associated Press material was used in this report.
