SALEM – The North Shore Medical Center staff at Salem Hospital held an emergency preparedness drill Tuesday morning, seeking to enhance coordination between NSMC and the Salem Fire Department in the event of a public disaster.The mass-decontamination drill was conducted at the hospital’s emergency department entrance and took several hours.Prior to the exercise, NSMC’s public relations officer Kevin Ronningen described its purpose, stating, “The disaster drill is performed so that NSMC staff and the local fire department can practice working together in the event of chemical, biological or radioactive exposure.”Coordinated with Salem Fire, the drill involved volunteer “victims” and focused on hazardous materials decontamination and the set-up of NSMC’s Mass Decontamination Unit.
