Manning Field will be the place to be for area football fans on Saturday as St. Mary’s and Tech will host a rare twilight doubleheader.The Spartans will be first up on Saturday when they play host to Trinity Catholic at 4. Tech will follow at 7, with a battle against reigning Super Bowl champion Manchester-Essex.Both the Spartans and Tigers will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping their first games of the season last week.For Tech, it was the second quarter that did the Tigers in against Whittier last week. The Tigers watched as the hosts ripped off a 30-point stretch to turn a 0-0 game into a 30-12 lead at the half and an eventual 38-12 win.St. Mary’s, meanwhile, traveled to Martha’s Vineyard and had no answer for Vineyarders quarterback Randal Jette. Jette rushed for 254 yards and threw for 52 more while helping account for four touchdowns in a 39-22 win.Ryan Barrows had a solid game for the Spartans in the loss, carrying 12 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. Nick Day rushed for one score and caught a 25-yard pass from Cam Mulvey for a second touchdown.Fenwick at SwampscottAt Blocksidge Field (2:30), both teams come in off convincing victories. The Big Blue (3-1) were down 14-10 at the half to Revere on Friday but ripped off 27 unanswered points in the second half to take a 37-14 win.Quarterback Matt Barbuzzi continued his hot play, throwing for 226 yards and two touchdowns, rushing for a third and adding a 28-yard field goal at the end of the first half to change momentum.The Crusaders (2-2) had to wait until Monday to take the field against Hamilton-Wenham. And though it took a while, Fenwick was able to take control of the game and rolled to a 30-0 win over the Generals.Alex Crecco rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns while Jimmy Oliveri and Chris Renzulli also had touchdowns.St. John’s at Mount St. Joseph’s (MD)At MSJ, the Eagles (1-3) dominated most of the game against Brockton on Sunday but were victimized by an interception return for a touchdown and a couple of costly turnovers in a 17-14 loss.
