SAUGUS – The Saugus High School Drama Club is tackling a tough subject based on an even tougher event for its fall production.The Drama Club will present “The Laramie Project,” written by The Teutonic Theater Company.The play is based on interviews collected three months after the death of Matthew Shepard, a gay student at the University of Wyoming who was robbed and beaten to death in 1998. Matthew spent six days in a coma before he died. The hate crime caused a media sensation when it happened and is still talked about today.Drama Club Director Nancy Lemoine said the students involved in the production play a multitude of roles as more than 60 Laramie residents are represented. Company members include seniors Brian Barry, Carmen Bordonaro, Rachael Gilman, Eric Kashdan, Elizabeth Manalo, Francis Mejia, Rachel Pace, Luke Rossi and Sarah Thibodeau. Juniors are Julia Kane, Tommy Knowlton and Erin Mabee. Sophomores include Erin Bennett, Alexis Fafard, Nicolette Ford, Lauren Meehan and Maggie Palermo. Freshmen members include Gabriella Bono, Shelby Katis, Ryan Perry, David Picarello and Ali Sarnacchiaro. Stage manager is Krista Christensen and assistant stage manager is Samantha Mansfield. Crew members include Amanda Dicenzo, Amanda Guarino, Ally MacDonald, Cody Martin, Nic Martin, Christen McLaughlin, Taylor Perry and Alison Stewart. Lemoine is directing the project which will be presented tonight, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Seating is limited, so early ticket purchase is recommended.
