WORCESTER – For the second straight year, a team from Lynn has qualified for the Pop Warner national championship tournament on the grounds of Disney World in Florida.The West Lynn B squad, coached by Maurice Cordy, defeated Wolcott, Conn., today at Foley Stadium, 13-6. Next stop: Disney World. The tournament begins Sunday, Dec. 6.Brad Scuzzarella and Jaylen Wiggins scored second-half touchdowns for the Rams in their comeback win. West Lynn spotted Wolcott a 6-0 halftime lead, as it turned the ball over three times in the first 20 minutes.However, the Rams did a better job of holding onto the ball in the final two quarters, and the defense simply smothered Wolcott, barely allowing its opponent a first down. Micah Jackson stood out on the other side of the ball, making six tackles.Last year, the East Lynn C Squad won the New England championship and qualified to go to Florida, thanks to a fluury of fund raising that finally got the team over the financial hump it needed.West Lynn will understake similar fund raising efforts, beginning with tomorrow’s (Sunday) $10 per plate luncheon at Connery Post 6 from 1 to 4 p.m.Stay tuned Monday – and all next week – for complete coverage of West Lynn’s quest to win a national championship.
