SALEM – A Lynn man charged with beating his girlfriend in front of her two children at his Marianna Street home in March has been indicted by an Essex County grand jury.Michael Gallagher, 54, of 150 Marianna St. is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon as well as three counts of assault and battery.The charges arise out of an incident at his home between March 27 and March 28 when he allegedly beat his 40-year-old female friend in front of her two children, ages 5 and 11, and a babysitter following a night out together.The domestic dispute began on their way home from a local establishment, continued in the car and his home.The victim, a resident of Stoneham, told authorities she was beaten in the car, stairs and living room with a telephone and an entertainment center.The two reportedly had a relationship for about two years.The indictments handed up now move the case from Lynn District Court, where Gallagher has pleaded innocent, to Salem Superior Court, where he will be re-arraigned within a few weeks.In the meantime, he is held at the Middleton Jail in lieu of bail.Assistant District Attorney Melissa Woodard is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth.Gallagher also has another pending case involving another female he allegedly threatened out of Peabody District Court. That case is scheduled for trial next week.
