SALEM – A Lynn man who brutally attacked his stepfather and zapped him with a stun gun during an altercation at their home on Den Quarry Road last summer will serve up to 30 months in prison.Stephen Sanserverino, 25, formerly of 301 Den Quarry Road pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon in Salem Superior Court before Judge Timothy Q. Feeley in a deal worked out by Assistant District Attorney James P. Gubitose and defense lawyer James L. Frederick.Sanserverino was charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a stun gun. He will sentenced to serve not less then two years and not more than 30 months in state prison before being placed on probation for another four years. Upon his release, he will be be evaluated for substance abuse with counseling and treatment as deemed necessary. He was also ordered to receive mental health treatment, consent to random drug screenings and stay away from his stepfather.The incident occurred last Aug. 15 when Sanserverino attacked his 54-year-old stepfather after his stepfather, who owns a pizza shop, came home and asked him about a missing envelope containing $2,000 in cash. The stepfather put the envelope in the trunk of his car after he found holes punched in the walls around his safe.The stepfather told authorities that Sanserverino came at him, beat him about the face and zapped him with stun gun. He tried to defend himself, but was overpowered. He sustained a broken jaw, swollen eye and had marks on his throat.The victim’s wife then told police her son had fled the area in a Pontiac Grand Prix.Sanserverino was arrested later that day on a warrant.Before punishment was imposed, Sanserverino apologized for his actions.Sanserverino has been held in custody at the Middleton Jail after being found to be a danger. He will receive credit for the time awaiting trial on the case.
