SALEM – Two Lynn men charged with trying to kill an 18-year-old teen on Timson Street in May during an attempted robbery were indicted Wednesday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Darkens Bonnett, 19, of 16 Osborne St. and Brandon Payne, 21, of 279 Chestnut St., both Lynn, stand charged with armed assault with intent to rob, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and buying and receiving stolen property over $250.The charges arise out of an incident in the early morning hours of May 18 when the victim, Elder Palma, 18, of 142 Timson St., said he was walking toward his home at about 2:30 a.m. when two men wearing black-and-blue hooded sweatshirts approached him demanding money. He quickly responded and started running away before he was shot.Palmer was taken to Union Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his chest and buttocks.Police found two .25 caliber handguns during the arrests of the suspects and a large-screen television set in a red Oldsmobile. The television had been reported stolen earlier from a home on Burrill Avenue.A third man was also arrested, Earl Damico, 35, of Lynn, but he was not indicted.The two suspects currently remain held in lieu of bail at the Middleton Jail pending their re-arraignment in Salem Superior Court within a few weeks.Assistant District Attorney James P. Gubitose is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth.Bonnett is also charged with the November 2009 murder of Vincent Gaskins of Lynn. He has not yet been indicted on that case yet.
