LYNN – An alleged drug dealer was arrested early Thursday after Lynn police officers caught him in the act.Wilford G. Wright, 41, of 195 Wood Ave., Hyde Park, was charged with trespassing, disguise to obstruct justice, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, violation of a city knife ordinance, school zone violation.Wright was arraigned Thursday at Lynn District Court by Judge James Lamothe and was ordered held in lieu of $25,000 cash. He is due back in court Oct. 8 for a pre-trial hearing.Around 1 a.m., officers spotted Wright and two others standing in a doorway on Washington Street, allegedly making a drug transaction. As soon as Wright noticed the officers, he was said to have tucked something into his pocket and began walking into the building. After several requests for him to stop, an officer asked Wright where he was going and he said, “I’m just going to my friend’s apartment.”As an officer attempted to pat frisk Wright, he tried to run away and pushed an officer in his attempt.After struggling to get away for several minutes, officers pepper-sprayed Wright and found an American Spirits cigarette box in his pocket, containing two plastic twists of crack cocaine and a black folding knife.A total of $73 was also found in his pants pocket. Police asked Wright several times what his name was and he refused to tell them. At the same time, a woman came to the front desk of the department and asked if Wright had been arrested. With that information, police confirmed his identity through a Registry of Motor Vehicles picture.
