SALEM – An Essex County grand jury reviewing cases Friday in Salem Superior Court handed up indictments against two men in a home invasion case.Brandon Werntz, 24, of 42 Cottage St., and Estiben Mejia, 19, of 297 Summer St., both of Boston, are charged with home invasion, two counts of armed robbery as well as two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.The charges arise out of an incident in Saugus on July 1 when the pair allegedly invaded a home at 9 Great Woods Road during the day, assaulted the occupants with a gun and stole a cell phone, cash and personal property.They are being held without bail pending their re-arraignment in Salem Superior Court.Assistant District Attorney John B. Brennan is assigned to prosecute the case.Indictments are a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court, allowing for a more severe punishment. It is not an indication of guilt.
