REVERE – A suspect who carjacked a woman in Peabody Sunday was found driving the same vehicle in Revere Thursday and was later arrested after police cajoled him to surrender.Todd Ciepiela, 33, homeless was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle recklessly to endanger, failure to stop, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, speeding, stop sign violation and two warrants.He is expected to be arraigned today at Chelsea District Court and returned to Peabody for additional charges.According to Revere Police, the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Warrant Apprehension Unit was in the area of Bellingham Avenue around noon Thursday, when they noticed a blue Camry acting suspiciously. The driver of the vehicle, Ciepiela, was said to have backed up a one-way street at a high rate of speed, parked and then ran into a home. After running the license plate, officers discovered that the vehicle had been stolen out of Peabody and began watching the home that the suspect ran into.When Ciepiela came outside with another woman, a deputy approached him, but said he quickly jumped into the stolen vehicle and sped away, striking the deputy with his side mirror.Ciepiela was then chased by police, but was lost sight of in the area of Chelsea. The woman who was previously seen with Ciepiela provided police with his cell phone number. Officers then called the number and were told by Ciepiela that he drove the vehicle to the North End section of Boston and left it on Commercial Street.The officers managed to convince Ciepiela to take a bus to the Beachmont Street station to turn himself in. Officers were waiting for Ciepiela at the station when he arrived and arrested him.The carjacking had unfolded around 8 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of 7-11 at 79 Lowell St. in Peabody. The victim told police she had been in the process of opening the driver’s side door of her 2007 light blue Toyota Camry, when the suspect approached her and demanded the keys.The suspect then reached in and allegedly grabbed the victim, forcibly removed her from the vehicle and threw her to the ground before jumping into the vehicle and speeding away. The victim did not suffer any injuries.
