REVERE – A Revere motorist charged with killing a Salem woman in a hit and run early Monday was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail in court Tuesday.Gerald C. Alviti, 52, of 16 Pleasant St., entered an innocent plea in Chelsea District Court on one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death. He is due back Nov. 8.The victim, 40-year-old Cynthia Osborne of Salem, was walking near the Wonderland MBTA station around 7 a.m., in an attempt to catch a bus to a methadone clinic in Lynn, when she was struck.Police say Alviti was on his way to the same clinic and allegedly pulled over to pick up his car mirror while Osborne lay dying in the street. She was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she later died.Witnesses gave police a detailed description of the vehicle, which was tracked down a short while later by a police officer with the postal service. That officer spotted Aliviti’s vehicle parked outside the methadone clinic, which was said to have been missing a mirror and had a cracked windshield.After he was taken into custody, Alviti allegedly claimed that someone else had hit Osborne and that she landed on the hood of his car, hitting the mirror. He later recounted his story, according to prosecutors.Alviti is represented by attorney Shannon McAuliffe.The crash is being investigated by the Revere Police Patrol Division, Traffic Division and detectives at the department, along with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Suffolk Detective Unit, Accident Reconstruction Unit and Crime Scene.
