SALEM – A Lynn man who police say stole money from a downtown bank twice during a week-long crime spree this past summer must come up with $10,000 cash to get out of Middleton Jail pending his trial.Douglas N. Wilson, 42, of 38-R South Elm St., Lynn, pleaded innocent Wednesday to two counts of unarmed robbery before Judge Timothy Q. Feeley in Salem Superior Court. The judge agreed to the high bail amount approved by both the prosecutor and defense, but left the door open for a later bail review. In the meantime, Wilson remains held. The charges arise out of two holdups in July at the Sovereign Bank branch located at 35 Market Square in Lynn.Around 4:30 p.m. on July 8, a heavy-set man wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap walked into the bank. The man walked up to a female teller, handed her a bag and note which said, “It is a robbery. Don’t want anybody to get hurt.”The teller pressed the silent alarm but the would-be-robber noticed and ordered both her hands on the counter as he grabbed the bag and fled with $272.50.A week later, on July 15, the same thief walked into the same bank using the same technique, again handing a similar note to another female teller and this time fled with $300.Police, reviewing the bank’s video, put together a photo array and showed it to witnesses who linked Wilson to both crimes. Following his arrest, Wilson unequivocally denied being involved. He is due back in court on Nov. 15 for a pretrial conference.Assistant District Attorney Kristen R. Buxton is prosecuting the case and public defender Christopher Norris is the defense attorney.Wilson has been deemed indigent and the state will pay all costs, but he is responsible for $150 towards the legal representation of a public defender.
