LYNN – A Revere woman appeared in court Thursday to face drunken driving charges stemming from a rollover accident on the Belden Bly Bridge in August.Ta Hou, 21, of 92 Rose Ave., was charged with speeding, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol causing serious injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.Hou was arraigned at Lynn District Court by Judge Stacy Fortes-White and was released on personal recognizance. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 19.On Aug. 8, police say Hou was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass with her sister, Sokha Hou, in the passenger seat. At the time of the collision, Ta struck a concrete median barrier dividing the roadway at the approach to the Rt. 107 bridge. The car then rolled over and slid on its roof before coming to a stop.Three Lynn men quickly rushed over to the vehicle, kicked in a passenger side window and got Sokha out, but had more of a difficult time freeing Ta.One of the men, Mack McKechnie, said he feared Ta was dead since she was unresponsive with a huge pool of blood surrounding her.She was eventually rescued and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious head injuries, while her sister was taken to Salem Hospital with a leg injury. The next day, police applied for a search warrant for the medical records, including blood and urine samples, taken at MGH and received the samples on Aug. 11. Police say the medical records showed a blood alcohol level of .24 percent. Ta previously admitted to consuming two glasses of wine the night of the accident. As a result, police say Ta did not have sufficient control of her vehicle and the speed she was traveling at (not made available) was greater than reasonable and contributed to the crash. Ta was mailed a citation and criminal complaints for the charges.
