SAUGUS – A fire tore through a home at 178 Hamilton St., early Sunday.Fire officials say heavy smoke was found seeping from the roof of the two-story, wood-frame home around 7 a.m. The fire was located in the kitchen area, which then spread to the roof. The ceiling and walls were soaked with water and a small area in a wall on the second floor was ventilated.Authorities say there was smoke damage throughout the home and an electrical inspector and a building inspector responded to the scene.The homeowner told officials that he was woken up by smoke detectors in his home and quickly woke up his 12-year-old daughter and they both ran outside. He said he tried to extinguish the fire by using three fire extinguishers, but was unable to do so. No injuries were reported.
