SWAMPSCOTT – A Lynn man wanted for allegedly breaking into Paradiso Ristorante on Oct. 4, was found holed up in a wooded area in Salem Tuesday morning with a police scanner.Jose “Nunie” Ortiz, 40, of 43 Oneida St., #2, was charged with breaking and entering during the night time for a felony, four counts of malicious destruction of property over $250, possession of burglary tools, larceny over $250, possession of a class C substance, Vicodin, possession with intent to distribute within a school zone. He will also be facing charges in Wellesley for crimes committed in that area.Tuesday morning, the Swampscott Police Department Detectives Unit, along with numerous other officers and agents from different agencies conducted early morning search warrants at two Lynn locations: Ortiz Complete Car Care at 47 Bennett St. and Ortiz’s residence.The search warrants were obtained by Swampscott detectives as a result of a multi-agency investigation following a break-in at the Paradiso at 15 Railroad Ave.Ortiz’s girlfriend, Katrina Freeman, 20, of 66 Astor St., Lynn, was arrested during the search and was charged with possession of a class C substance, Vicodin, and possession with intent to distribute within a school zone.During that time, police learned that Ortiz was hiding in a wooded area off of Highland Avenue near the water tower. As a result, the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing was called in to assist in locating Ortiz, who led police on a foot chase deeper into the wooded area where he was eventually taken into custody.Police later learned that Ortiz was carrying a police radio scanner, which he used to monitor the movements of officers.
