SALEM – Two Lynn men were arrested Wednesday afternoon after one man hurled a brick at the other who in turn defended himself with a piece of a picket fence.Kevin Peraza, 18, of 492 Chatham St., was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, brick; William Anthony Gioacchini, 44, of 26 Campbell St., was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, wooden picket fence.Both suspects are expected to be arraigned today at Salem District Court.According to police, a fight was reported at the intersection of Essex and Warren streets around 3:30 p.m., where Peraza said he struck Gioacchini in the back with a brick after he allegedly kept bothering him and his girlfriend.Peraza said the two were riding on an MBTA bus from Lynn to Salem, when Gioacchini, who was allegedly drunk, kept asking Peraza’s girlfriend personal questions. After allegedly asking Gioacchini to leave them alone several times, they decided to get off the bus on Essex Street near Warren to get away from him.Peraza said Gioacchini got off the bus after them and followed them down the street. When Peraza told Gioacchini to leave them alone, Gioacchini allegedly took off his sweater and asked Peraza if “he wanted to go.”Peraza said he tried to back away, but when Gioacchini allegedly began to follow them again, Peraza picked up a brick on the side of the road and threw it at Gioacchini, striking him on the upper part of his back.At that point, Gioacchini is said to have ripped off the top part of a picket fence and went after Peraza. Police say a witness who was driving by tried to stop the fight, but alleged that Gioacchini went after him. The two were taken into custody, where police say Gioacchini had a red mark on the top part of his back that appeared to have come from a brick. He refused medical attention.
