SAUGUS – Police say a love-sick Saugus man delivered gifts and a romantic letter addressed to U.S. Sen. John Kerry’s wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, on Tuesday. The unidentified Bow Street resident allegedly traveled to Kerry’s Boston office located at 1 Bowdoin Square, where authorities say the building’s security thought the man’s behavior was erratic and possibly threatening to the 72-year-old philanthropist. As a result, the man was quickly escorted out of the building and the matter was referred to the U.S. Capital Police’s threat assessment department. An agent from that department then requested Saugus Police to check on the man at his home, but when officers visited the home several times Tuesday night, they were repeatedly told by the man’s wife and son said he had not returned home.By Wednesday morning, police were told he was still not home, so they advised his wife that he should not contact Sen. Kerry, Mrs. Kerry or to go to the Senator’s Boston office again.A rep for Kerry’s office declined to comment on the incident and the U.S. Capital Police would not say what the letter said or what type of gifts the man left at the office. No charges have been filed. After calling the Bow Street residence several times Wednesday night, an unidentified person answered and alluded that the man was at a Boston hospital but would not elaborate on his intentions with Kerry’s wife.
