LYNN – A Guatemalan man without a license allegedly slammed his vehicle into a 69-year-old Salem man on Halloween, left his car at the scene and ran home.The suspect, Jaimen Castro-Solis, 24, of 242 Boston St., #1, was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of personal injury and a passing on the right violation. He was arraigned Tuesday at Lynn District Court by Judge Stacey Fortes-White and was released on personal recognizance under the condition that he not operate a motor vehicle without a valid license.Solis is due back in court for a pre-trial hearing Dec. 6.According to court documents, police responded to a report of a pedestrian accident at the intersection of Boston and Franklin streets, around noon Sunday. The victim was found laying in the northbound lane of Boston Street, being attended to by two witnesses to the accident.Two vehicles were also positioned in the roadway to prevent the victim from being hit again.One of the witnesses told police he saw a red Honda traveling down Boston Street at a high rate of speed, passing several vehicles on the right and that he heard a loud thud moments after. He claimed to have seen the driver, Solis, back up his vehicle, get out of it and leave the area. The red Honda was found parked on a sidewalk about 75 yards from the scene.Police tracked down the owner of the vehicle through its registration and went to the Boston Street address. While there, police spoke to a man, Solis, who was holding a set of car keys. He said the Honda was his friend’s, that he had been in an accident and handed police a Guatemalan driver’s license. He did not have a passport with him. When asked why he left after he hit the pedestrian, Solis didn’t give a reason except to say that the pedestrian had been crossing too quickly.The victim, who was taken to Salem Hospital for his injuries, said he had been crossing the street when he was struck by the Honda, but was unable to give a full statement at the time.During Solis’ booking, he told police he had been arrested two weeks ago for operating a motor vehicle while unlicensed.The owner of the Honda will be summonsed to Lynn District Court for allowing an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
