SALEM – A 24-year-old man who allegedly participated in a brutal home invasion in Saugus this summer will have to come up with $50,000 cash bail in order to get out of the Middleton Jail before his trial starts.Brandon Werntz, of 42 Cottage St., Boston, was arraigned Tuesday morning in Salem Superior Court, pleading innocent to home invasion, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.Judge Timothy Q. Feeley agreed to maintain the same bail amount as jointly agreed by Assistant District Attorney John B. Brennan and defense lawyer Joseph Eisenstadt.The defense, however, may seek a bail review hearing at another court date.If Werntz makes bail, he will be confined to his home on a GPS tracking device.Werntz and his co-defendant, Estiben Mejia, 19, allegedly invaded a home at 9 Great Woods Road around 2 p.m. and pistol-whipped the occupant.
