SALEM – The case against Christopher Maxson, the 20-year-old boyfriend of a young woman killed in a drunken driving crash in Lynn earlier this year, was continued Friday.Maxson, formerly of 140 Elm St., #2, Marblehead, was expected to plead guilty to motor vehicle homicide charges, but because his attorney, John Andrews, could not be present, the case was continued until Dec. 17 for a plea.Attorney Marc R. Salinas reported to Judge David A. Lowy that Andrews underwent surgery two weeks ago and the recovery has taken much longer than expected.Salinas apologized to the court for not properly communicating with the court.Lowy noted that the delay caused a tough situation for the family and court, and inconvenience to the community.Maxson is charged with the March 21 crash that killed 19-year-old Julia Gauthier of Salem.Maxson, driving a Toyota 4Runner SUV, allegedly sped through two stop signs at the intersection of Glenwood Street and Eastern Avenue in Lynn to take a shortcut home from a party on Essex Street.His car flipped on Glenwood, causing Gauthier, who was a front-seat passenger, to fall out of the car through the sunroof. She was killed almost instantly.Maxson, Gauthier and two others in the car were coming from a party at the home of 19-year-old Craig Snow. Snow, of 471 Essex St., has been charged with violating the state’s Social Host Liabilities Law.Maxson allegedly admitted to authorities that he had been drinking.He has been serving a six-month sentence at the Middleton Jail for violating his probation in a marijuana case.
