MARBLEHEAD – A lawsuit has been filed against well-known Marblehead resident Mary Denise Rockett for refusal to pay more than $60,000 in legal services for estate and business planning.According to a Superior Court lawsuit filed by Boston-based law firm Rubin and Rudman LLP, Rockett and her late husband J. Hilary Rockett approached the firm in March 2009 and entered into an agreement for its legal services in April. The law firm alleges that it completed the work, but that Rockett, who was appointed as the Executrix of her late husband’s estate, has failed to pay or to respond to demands for payment of the outstanding legal bills totaling $60,297.84 plus interest.A few months after the Rockett’s agreement, J. Hilary died on Nov. 26, 2009 at the age of 74. The life-long Marblehead resident served on the Board of Selectmen and was a Republican state legislator from 1963 to 1972. Following his death, the law firm made a demand for the payment in January and then again in March of this year. The lawsuit states that the agreement the Rocketts entered into was to pay the law firm the customary hourly rates of those attorneys and other staff who worked on the matter, plus expenses. Itemized bills were allegedly sent to the Rocketts for payment and ignored. An attorney for the law firm, Amy McCallen, said the firm has suffered and continues to suffer damages as a result of the breach of agreement.Calls placed to the Rockett residence were not immediately returned Monday night.
