LYNN – Police are searching for a suspect who robbed the Sovereign Bank branch in Central Square at approximately 11:20 a.m. Wednesday and may have committed another recent bank robbery.Police believe the suspect also robbed the Eastern Bank at 112 Market St. Saturday and he’s described as a white male in his 30s, with scruffy facial hair.Lynn Police spokesman Lt. William Sharpe said in a press release Wednesday that both robberies were done in a similar fashion, where the suspect passed a threatening note to a teller and made off with an undetermined amount of money.The suspect fled Wednesday’s robbery in a taxi, according to Sharpe.”The suspect ? used a taxi to flee the scene and was dropped off in another part of the city, the Washington Street area,” Sharpe said.Two marked police cruisers and a detective closed the Sovereign branch at 39 Exchange St. shortly after the crime was reported and followed a suspect from Central Square to Union Street, but no arrests have been made yet.Sharpe said detectives are actively investigating both cases and is asking for the public’s help in tracking down the suspect.Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect should call detectives at 781-595-2000 or submit an anonymous tip by texting the word tiplynn and the information to tip411 or 847411 or by submitting a tip through the department’s Web site at www.lynnpolice.org and clicking the submit tip icon.In addition, the department has a tip line available at 781-477-4444 for those who want to remain anonymous but do not have a cellular phone to send a text message.
