SALEM – Bail for a Peabody man accused of beating a man with a police scanner in July remains at $5,000 cash following his arraignment Wednesday in Salem Superior Court.William P. Maurice, 50, who is listed as homeless but has lived in Peabody, pleaded innocent to assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, two counts of threat to commit a crime and two counts of intimidation of a witness.As jointly agreed by both the prosecutor and defense, Judge David A. Lowy set the same bail amount established earlier in Peabody District Court, with the option for a bail review hearing at a later date.Maurice remains held in lieu of bail at the Middleton Jail.He is due back in court on Dec. 20 for a pretrial conference.
