SALEM – A Lynn man who police say went on a three-day crime spree robbing area banks of thousands of dollars, was granted $5,000 cash bail at his arraignment, despite prosecutors asking for triple that amont.Scott Oliver, 47, of 30 Franklin St., #30, Lynn, entered his plea of innocent to three indictments of unarmed robbery before Judge Timothy Q. Feeley in Salem Superior Court Friday.Assistant District Attorney Jean M. Curran argued for a $15,000 cash bail, saying it was “appropriate” and based on the case and his record.She said the charges stem from three bank robberies in July, August and September.When police arrested him, Oliver told them he needed the money to pay bills, according to reports.Defense lawyer Alice Jayne successfully urged the judge to set a $5,000 cash bail, pointing out her client’s significant ties to the community, that the crime was not violent and that Oliver was cooperative with police.Feeley emphasized the absence of a criminal record for the last 14 years and noted the suspect’s ties to the community.
