LYNN – A massive water-main break that occurred Saturday morning on the Lynnway and snarled traffic all weekend, has been repaired. The southbound lane of the busy roadway was shut down around 3 a.m. after an underground pipe burst, causing water to gush for nearly 12 straight hours. When officers first arrived on scene, they found a taxi, which attempted to drive through the water and became stuck as asphalt quickly deteriorated, causing a large sinkhole. Police say the driver got out safely and that the vehicle was removed by G&J Towing.Crews from Lynn Water and Sewer feverishly worked to repair the break, which affected a 12-inch line that runs down the Lynnway. The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) lines were said to not have been affected. The roadway was re-paved Sunday afternoon and reopened around 7 p.m.?We?re very fortunate that this occurred over the weekend and not on a weekday since it would have caused serious traffic delays,” said Lynn Police Lt. Dave Brown.
