LYNN – A pit bull is said to have lunged at a man and his young child as they walked on Bassett Road Tuesday night, authorities said.Animal Control Officer Michael Karevich said he responded to the same home twice in as many days, where the American Staffordshire Terrier broke free from its leash and chased after those walking nearby.”This dog was trained for aggression, there’s no doubt in my mind,” he said. “It went berserk and wanted anybody that came in its way.”Karevich said he was called to the home Monday night on a report that the animal had broken free from its chain, but was told everything was in order before he could investigate the situation. Then, around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Karevich returned to the scene, where a man and his young child were taking a walk and attacked by the animal.”The man was able to fend the dog off, but it’s a very powerful animal,” he said. “The yard that the dog is in is wide open on one end, so that’s how it managed to get into the street. I don’t think that the dog learned the aggression in nature, I think it has to be shown.”A Lynn officer managed to block the animal into its yard with a cruiser and used the siren to scare the dog from leaving. The name of the dog’s owner was not released Tuesday night, nor if any fines were handed out. The animal is currently in Karevich’s possession. No injuries were reported in the attack.
