SALEM – Bail for a 20-year-old man who participated in a brutal home invasion in Saugus this past summer was set at $50,000 cash following his arraignment.Estiben Mejia, of 297 Summer St., Boston, appeared Friday morning in Salem Superior Court pleading innocent to charges of home invasion, two counts of armed robbery as well as two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.Judge Timothy Q. Feeley agreed to set the bail jointly recommended by the prosecutor and defense, but left the door open for a bail review hearing at another court date.In the meantime, Mejia will have to come up with $50,000 cash to get out of the Middleton Jail pending trial. If he is bailed, the judge ordered that Mejia is to stay away from the victims involved in the case and the location where the alleged crimes occurred. The charges arise out of an incident in Saugus on July 1 when Mejia along with his alleged accomplice, Brandon Werntz, 24, burst into a home at around 2 p.m. at 9 Great Woods Road, armed with guns. The 27-year-old male occupant told authorities he was pistol whipped by Mejia during the home invasion as the two suspects rummaged through the home looking for items to steal. They stole a cell phone, a couple of hundred dollars, electronic equipment and personal property before fleeing from the home. The victims were able to provide police a description of the getaway vehicle which was tracked down a short time later and the suspects were arrested.
