SWAMPSCOTT – A Swampscott man allegedly lost his cool and strangled his wife over the weekend when she expressed interest in applying for a job.David Tarason, 45, of 11 Smith Lane, was charged with two counts of domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness. He was arraigned Monday at Lynn District Court by Judge Albert Conlon and was released on personal recognizance under the condition that he be fitted for a GPS monitoring bracelet today. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 11.According to court documents, Tarason’s wife claimed she was assaulted by her husband because of her interest in a job at the Swampscott Library. She went on to say that Tarason allegedly broke her cellular phone because she said she was going to call the police and ran to a neighbor’s home for safety.During the assault, the victim said Tarason strangled her with his left hand for about 10-15 seconds and that he looked as if he was “out of control” during the episode. She said that Tarason stopped abruptly when he realized what he was doing and apologized to her, but seconds later, cornered her when she tried to leave and allegedly threw a punch, swiping her head and making a hole in a door. After the incident, Tarason was said to have gone on a bike ride with his children in Marblehead. He was tracked down on Atlantic Avenue and was brought back to Swampscott in a cruiser. The victim said Tarason told her in the past that he would “break her bones” and that he previously assaulted her cat by strangling it when it scratched her daughter.Police say an emergency restraining order was granted after the incident and that a previous one was issued in January when the couple separated briefly in 2009. The victim and her children were taken to a H.A.W.C. (Healing Abuse Working for Change) safe house by police.
