SALEM – A Peabody man who police say carjacked a vehicle from a 56-year-old woman from a parking lot in downtown in September was one of three local men indicted Friday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Todd Ciepiela, 33, last known address of 30 King St., Peabody, is charged with carjacking and unarmed robbery.The charges arise out of an incident on the morning of Sept. 26, when the victim, a 56-year-old Peabody woman, said she went to the 7-11 store at 79 Lowell St. in Peabody at around 8 a.m.As she began to open the driver’s side door, a man grabbed her, demanded her keys and forcibly pulled her from her 2007 light blue Toyota Camry.After throwing her on the ground, he got in and drove off westbound on Lowell Street.The victim did not sustain any injuries.Ciepiela was arrested four days later in Revere driving the same vehicle after a police chase.Assistant District Attorney Michael Patten is assigned to prosecute the case.Also indicted were James Barr, 44, of 15 Moon Road, Lynn and John Donovan, 44, of 98 Newbury St., Danvers, charged with conspiracy to commit the crime of breaking and entering concerning their alleged plot to burglarize a CVS Pharmacy in Tewksbury and steal pills.They apparently met July 26, 2009 in the parking lot of the Dunkin Donuts at Goodwin’s Circle in Lynnfield to plan the crime.Assistant District Attorney James P. Gubitose is prosecuting the case for the state.Indictments are not an indication of guilt, rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court, allowing for a more severe punishment.
