SALEM – The Lynn plumber who allegedly robbed and savagely beat an 89-year-old grandmother in front of her Eastern Avenue home last month and also stole a purse from a woman a week earlier on the same street has been indicted by an Essex County grand jury.Essex County Assistant District Attorney Kim Faitella wasted no time in bringing the case before a grand jury who returned several indictments late Wednesday afternoon against Nicholas Christian, 30, of 7 Hammond St., charging him with unarmed robbery of a victim over age 60, assault and battery on a person over age 60 causing bodily injury and receiving stolen property in connection with the Nov. 15 incident that left Geneva Sozanski with a black eye, multiple bruises and a head gash.Sozanski, 89, told authorities she was walking on the sidewalk near her home on Eastern Avenue at around 1:15 p.m., when a man jumped out of the passenger side of a black vehicle and yanked on her arm to get her pocketbook.She fell to the ground and the thief took off.Police arrested Christian a few days later following an investigation.Sozanski?s wallet and personal identification was reportedly found in a cat box in the suspect?s cellar by police along with belongings from another robbery on the same street a week earlier.Christian also was indicted on a second case on charges of unarmed robbery and receiving stolen property stemming from an earlier incident in Lynn on Nov. 7 when he allegedly robbed a purse from 35-year-old Diana Keith, of Lynn.The indictments now move the case from Lynn District Court, where Christian has pleaded not guilty, to Salem Superior Court, where he will be re-arraigned within a few weeks.In the meantime, Christian remains held without bail at the Middleton Jail after being deemed to dangerous to be released.
