SALEM – A man accused of beating a Peabody father of two to death over a parking space was indicted late Wednesday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Fernando Aristy, 24, of Chelsea, has been charged with murder in the first degree, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury.The charges arise out of an incident in the early morning hours of Oct. 9 when Aristy allegedly beat 34-year-old Chad McDonald, of 4 Cashman Road, Peabody over the head with a two-by-four piece of wood.According to reports, McDonald had complained that Aristy was parking his Jeep in front of a warehouse, Jim Appleyard Bonded Storage, located at 37 Bennett St., in Lynn, where McDonald worked.McDonald walked next door to REM Auto Body and Paint around 2:30 a.m., to complain to several men drinking and playing dominoes about the vehicle blocking the warehouse’s entry way.A heated argument ensued between Aristy and McDonald over the parking space, where McDonald needed to park a truck.The two wrestled onto the ground, with McDonald grabbing a screwdriver and Aristy picking up a two-by-four piece of wood.Aristy struck McDonald several times in the head with the board, then drove away.Aristy turned himself into police about two weeks later.A conviction on the first-degree murder charge carries a mandatory life sentence in state prison with no chance of ever being paroled.
