SALEM – A Peabody man charged with bursting into his girlfriend’s home on Central Street drunk and allegedly smashing her head against the wall and pulling her hair after she called police remains held without bail at the Middleton Jail.Peter Hurley, 50, of 6 Burnham Road, pleaded innocent at his arraignment Friday morning in Salem Superior Court to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, witness intimidation and breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony before Judge Timothy Q. Feeley.Assistant District Attorney Jessica M. Strasnick requested a dangerousness hearing be scheduled, maintaining that Hurley is a danger to the victim and the community.The judge set Jan. 4 for the hearing.The charges arise out of an incident in Peabody in the early morning hours of Sept. 25 when Hurley allegedly forced himself into his 47-year-old girlfriend’s home on Central Street.The victim, who had apparently warned him she did not want to see him if he was intoxicated, called police saying she wanted him out.Hurley became enraged. He pulled her hair, smashed her head against the wall several times and began hitting her.Police quickly responding to the scene arrested Hurley as he jumped a nearby fence.
