EVERETT – Two suspects involved in the Jan. 6 attempted robbery of a Century Bank in Everett and a subsequent police-involved shooting were arraigned Monday.James Gordon Chase, 48, of Lynn and Robert Giannino, 34, of Medford, were arraigned at Malden District Court by Judge Lee Johnson, each on the charge of unarmed robbery. Both suspects were ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Jan. 13.On the day of the incident, Everett Police responded to the reported robbery around 2:16 p.m. at the Century Bank on Route 16. Upon arrival, officers say Giannino fled on foot, got into a waiting vehicle driven by Chase and a pursuit ensued.Authorities allege that Chase accelerated toward the officer as he ordered him to stop. As a result, the officer fired his gun, striking Chase. The vehicle then took off and was later tracked to an apartment building in Saugus at 319 Central St., where police found Chase. Giannino is said to have gotten out of the vehicle prior to it arriving in Saugus.Suffering from a gunshot wound, Chase was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and later arrested on Jan. 7. Giannino was arrested by Boston Police on Jan. 7 as well and taken to Everett Police where he was booked.The investigation was handled by Everett Police, State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force. The justifiability of the police-involved shooting is being investigated by the District Attorney’s Office.
