LYNN – A Sunday morning drunken brawl on King Street, complete with vomit on the walls and a victim stripped down to his underwear and severely beaten, is said to have stemmed from anger over the victim dating the suspect’s sister.Richard Madden Jr., 27, of 629 Eastern Ave., #1, Lynn, was charged with assault and battery causing seriously bodily injury. He was arraigned Tuesday at Lynn District Court by Judge James Wexler and posted $1,000 cash bail.According to court documents, Lynn police responded to a report of a disturbance on King Street around 1 a.m. Sunday, where they found a resident of the first floor concerned over fighting in an upstairs apartment.Police found the door to the second floor apartment open and could hear yelling and a commotion coming from inside a bathroom. After trying to open the door, police found that it had been barricaded shut and heard a person inside yelling that he couldn’t open the door. Once officers pushed the door open, they found Madden allegedly on top of another man wearing only underwear on the bathroom floor. After separating the two, police asked Madden what happened, but he allegedly refused to say anything other than that the victim was a “crackhead” and continued to slur his words. Police say they saw vomit on the walls of the bathroom and could smell a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Madden as he sat on a heap on the floor. The 42-year-old victim, who said he had been drinking alcohol with Madden, suffered serious facial injuries during the brawl. He claimed that he had been sucker punched by Madden after he admitted to dating his sister and was punched several times in the face and kicked while he was in the kitchen, before the argument spilled over into the bathroom. During the fight, police say the victim was bitten on his right hand and had injuries that swelled into welts on top of his head.Atlantic Ambulance treated the victim at the scene and later informed police that he had suffered a broken right hand. He was taken to Union Hospital.
