LYNN – Police say they caught a Revere man sitting inside a snow-covered Cadillac on Friday night with a bottle of vodka, a bag of marijuana and a blood-alcohol level nearly three times over the legal limit. The suspect, Richard P. Speropolous, 64, of 220 Proctor Ave., was charged with his fourth offense of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and arraigned Tuesday at Lynn District Court by Judge James Wexler.Speropolous was released on $500 cash bail under the conditions that he not drink alcohol or do drugs, submit to random screenings and not operate a motor vehicle. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for March 10.According to court documents, Lynn police received a tip about an impaired driver in the lot of Atha’s Roast Beef on Boston Street, around 9 p.m. Upon arrival, police found Speropolous sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, with the engine running and all of the windows covered in snow except for the front windshield. When Speropolous rolled down the window, police said they could smell a strong odor of alcohol even though he claimed to not have been drinking in a slurred voice. Since the ground was covered in ice at the time, police say they didn’t have Speropolous perform a sobriety test, but placed him under arrest because of his glassy, bloodshot eyes and overall demeanor.A search of his car found an open bottle of Rubles Vodka, a 40-percent alcoholic beverage. A bag of marijuana containing about 23 grams was also found and placed into evidence. During his booking, Speropolous registered a 0.23 percent Breathalyzer test.
