SAUGUS – A Saugus woman has been accused of allegedly stealing more than $500 from the Veteran’s Memorial School PTO fund after she wrote several checks from a bank account that she knew had been closed.Danielle Demayo, 33, of 7 Wolcott Terrace, was charged with larceny by check over $250 for a felony and two counts of larceny under $250. She was arraigned on Jan. 18 by Judge Albert Conlon and released on personal recognizance. She is expected to plead guilty at her next court date, which is scheduled for Feb. 24.According to court documents, the Treasurer of the PTO fund reported a larceny to police on Dec. 23, 2010 after she received a statement for the month of November and was notified that a check had been written from a closed account.The Treasurer said the check was dated Oct. 1, 2010 in the amount of $267.50 and came from a previously closed account with Bank of America. The check, which was written by Demayo, had been submitted as payment for a total of 25 items in which her daughter had sold for a fundraiser.In addition, two electronic and external withdrawals using a Sprint account were made for $175.36 and $60. The statement from Saugus Bank indicated that the withdrawals had been made by Demayo.Police said at the time that they had charges pending against Demayo for a similar incident on Oct. 20, 2010, where Demayo is accused of writing other fraudulent checks from the same closed account as the checks in the PTO incident.In all, a total of $25.15 was charged in fees to the account at Saugus Bank, with $528.01 as the total loss from the larceny. A warrant was issued for Demayo’s arrest by the Saugus police.
