LYNNFIELD – A Lynnfield man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a best man following a drug and alcohol-induced September wedding reception in Stamford, CT.Police say Joseph Papagni, 25, faces a second-degree manslaughter charge in the death of 24-year-old Nicholas Poti, along with possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.Two other Lynnfield friends, Kyle Melanson, 25, and Matthew Talis, 26, have been charged with possession of narcotics. On Tuesday, Papagni posted a $50,000 bond, while both Melanson and Talis posted $25,000 bonds.Police say Papagni and the two other suspects turned themselves in Tuesday morning to authorities. They are accused of supplying cocaine and prescription painkillers that they took with Poti in their hotel room at the Stamford Plaza hotel after the wedding reception.Poti was found not breathing the morning after the night of heavy drinking and drug use. He was taken to an emergency room, where he was pronounced dead from ingesting a mixture of cocaine, percocet and alcohol.Police say Poti and the three friends kept drinking and partying in their hotel room after the reception, which involved snorting cocaine and the painkiller Percocet.Papagni?s lawyer, Eugene Riccio called the death a “terrible tragedy.” All three suspects are due back in court on Feb. 8.Calls placed to Papagni?s home on Thursday were not returned.
