LYNN – A Lynnfield woman was rescued from the Lynn Woods Reservation Thursday afternoon and suffered hypothermia after she became stuck in waist deep snow.Lynn Fire District Chief Lee Oliver said the woman, who is in her 60s, and her friend decided to strap on their new brand new snowshoes and go for a walk in an area of the woods behind Judge Road. All was going well until the woman lost her footing and ended up sinking into a cold, swampy section of the woods.”She made an effort to pull herself out, but she ended up pulling off her snowshoes and the shoes off her feet,” Oliver said. “Her friend tried to get her out, but when he couldn’t, he called for help.”Oliver said a total of 15 firefighters and three engines responded to the scene around 11:45 a.m. After trudging through the snow, firefighters lifted the woman and placed into a Stokes basket to haul her out. But when that method didn’t work, Oliver said the firefighters were forced to pick her up and carry her to safety.”A few of the guys brought her partway and then the other men carried her out,” he said. “They were exhausted and had swamp water dripping down their boots.”An ambulance was waiting to take the woman to the hospital for treatment of hypothermia.”She was a little bit older, so we were concerned about her health, but I have to say, she was in pretty good spirits the whole time,” he said.
