REVERE – A rapist wanted by the Revere Police, the Massachusetts State Police and the Sex Offender Registry Board has made the list of the state’s top 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders.Steven M. Hescock, 34, was previously convicted of rape and is wanted by the Revere police on three felony warrants for failure to register as a level 3 sex offender and two counts of larceny. He is also wanted by the Medford police on a felony larceny warrant.In 1994, Hescock was sentenced to three to five years in state prison for rape. Police say he has a history of theft, which includes breaking and entering in the nighttime.”These predators are among the worst of the worst,” said Colonel Marian H. McGovern, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police. “Many of them have preyed on children, many are multiple offenders and all are trying to elude the law that requires that they register so we can keep track of them. Finding these men is a priority of the Massachusetts State Police.”Hescock is described as a white male, with brown hair, blue eyes, tattoos on his left arm and left hand, is 6-feet, 1-inch tall and 230 pounds. Level 3 sex offenders are deemed to be the highest risk of committing another sex crime and considered to be a danger to the community.In 2010, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section arrested nearly 3,000 fugitives and cleared nearly 4,000 arrest warrants. Among those arrested were close to 300 fugitives who had committed sexual assaults, 400 with firearms offenses, 800 on assault charges and more than 1,000 suspects wanted for narcotics crimes and five accused murderers.
