LYNN – One week after two men were rescued from a roof collapse at Greater Lynn Senior Services’ Transportation Department on the Lynnway, another portion of the unstable roof came tumbling down on Wednesday from the weight of a two-day snowstorm.GLSS Executive Director Paul Crowley said no injuries were reported in the condemned building, which is currently being assessed by the insurance company of building owner Scangas Nominee Trust.”We’re waiting to hear if the insurance company is going to determine if it’s appropriate to be repaired or if it should be demolished,” he said. “It would certainly be a relief to get the building down so that there aren’t any other implications.”Crowley said 26,000 square feet of the 65,000 square foot “C” building located at 330 Lynnway has been affected by the collapse, which is located behind the “clock tower” building. Since the collapse, Crowley said the RIDE is now back in business. He also credited the MBTA for offering use of their parking garage and for their support and guidance during the incident.”While there have been multiple other roof collapses in the region since ours, I think people paid serious attention to what happened to us and have taken precautions to shovel excessive snow from rooftops,” he said. “I would never want this to happen to anyone else and we are so grateful no one was hurt.”The trapped drivers, Cesar Jimenez and Peter Sullivan, both walked away from the ordeal with only minor injuries. Crowley said GLSS is currently looking for a new space to house its maintenance facility.
