PEABODY – A trio of alleged members of a known East Coast organized retail crime ring were arraigned Wednesday following their arrest on Tuesday after a harrowing chase near the Northshore Mall. All three suspects were arraigned Wednesday at Peabody District Court, where Chardee Orr, 21, of Staten Island, N.Y., was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail, Na Draithwaite, 24, of Staten Island, N.Y., held on $2,000 and Kaliesha McCoy, 21, of Brooklyn, N.Y., held on $25,000, according to Kerry Kimball-Monahan, a spokesman for the Essex District Attorney’s office. The next scheduled court date is May 26.According to Peabody Police, detectives who were working with members of Gap corporate security set up surveillance at the Northshore Mall early Tuesday. A little while later, the group, which operates out of New York City, was determined to be in the area based on information gathered by various retail security groups and police departments along the East Coast.Police saw three women and a man leave the mall around 1 p.m. in a Ford Focus rental car. After attempting to stop the car near Shaw’s Supermarket, the car went through a red light. The detective pulled his cruiser up to the vehicle with his lights on, but the vehicle abruptly drove toward it at a high rate of speed, hitting the cruiser, causing major damage. At that point, the car continued in the direction of Su Changs restaurant, where witnesses say they saw the suspects throwing bags out of the windows, which were later found to contain hundreds of credit cards. The car was eventually stopped on Lowell Street, where three female suspects were arrested. The driver, Orr was charged with receiving stolen property over $250, identity fraud, possession of stolen credit cards, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, motor vehicle, and failure to stop for police. The two passengers, Draithwaite and McCoy, were charged with numerous offenses. The detective involved in the chase was taken to a local hospital where he was released a short time later. A male suspect who got out of the vehicle at some point during the pursuit remains at large.”This was a great example of the police and private sector working together to stop an organized retail crime ring,” said Peabody Deputy Police Chief Martin Cohan. “These organized groups cost consumers and businesses untold amounts of money every year through their various criminal activities. We will continue to work with our private sector partners to stop them and protect Peabody businesses and the community.”
