SAUGUS – Police say after a Lynn man was caught with a stash of marijuana in his car on Tuesday, he allegedly tried to bribe an officer with the drug in exchange for being arrested.Waldemar Ocasio, 30, of 686 Boston St., #3 was charged with marijuana possession, no inspection sticker, and bribery of a police officer. He was arraigned Wednesday at Lynn District Court by Judge Ellen Flatley and released on personal recognizance. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 8.According to court documents, an officer on patrol around 6:30 p.m., in the area of Cliftondale Square, pulled over a red car with a cracked windshield. While approaching the driver’s side window, the officer said it looked as if the driver, Ocasio, was shoving something into his right pocket while holding his driver’s license out the car window. After ordering Ocasio out of the car, the officer asked him what he had in his pocket, to which he allegedly replied, “Officer, it’s just a little weed.” The officer then asked Ocasio in Spanish to cooperate with him and to tell him if he had any more of the drug, to which Ocasio allegedly admitted that he had an ounce of marijuana in the glove compartment for his personal use.The officer found a clear plastic bag in Ocasio’s right pocket, which contained six individual bags of marijuana. At that point, Ocasio allegedly yelled, “Hey officer, give me a break. Keep the marijuana. I will give you some money later. I need it, I’ll get in trouble if I lose it.”The officer then asked Ocasio to repeat what he just said to him and Ocasio said in Spanish, “Brother, I said I need that ounce, I will look for you, and hook you up with some money later.”Ocasio was then placed under arrest and booked, where he allegedly said to the same officer, “I have to apologize to you. It’s just a big misunderstanding, you misunderstood my words. I didn’t say I was going to buy the weed off you, what I said was, I was going to look you up and give you some money out on the street, for not arresting me for the weed.”The officer then told Ocasio to remain silent and not say another word to him.
