SAUGUS – Too big, too powerful and a little too talented summed up the Saugus football team’s formidable foe in the Sachems’ 35-6 loss to Triton at Stackpole Field on Saturday. The Vikings offensive line opened up holes all day, ones that were exploited ably by Blaise Whitman and Derek Paquette as the two combined for 180 yards rushing and four touchdowns.”Triton is an excellent team,” Saugus coach Mike Broderick said.Triton got the ball and set the tone for the day by running on 11 of 13 plays in a game opening drive that went 61 yards and ended with Whitman’s one-yard pass to Dom Rovetto. The Sachems went three and out on their first possession and Triton didn’t waste much time in doubling its lead as Paquette carried four times for 29 yards and a touchdown with 2:10 left in the first to make it 14-0.Saugus failed to make a first down on the next drive and the Vikings efficiently marched 81 yards to their third touchdown in as many tries as Whitman hit Matt Hill for a 10 yard score and a 21-0 halftime lead.Things went from bad to worse for the Sachems on the second play of the third quarter when C.J. Randolph fumbled and Hill recovered at the Saugus 40. Whitman hit Hill for 38 and then Paquette took it the final two yards to make it 28-0 less than two minutes in.The Sachems tried to claw back in the game midway through the third when Paquette fumbled. Saugus then turned it into an 11-yard TD run from Justin Barrasso that closed it to 28-6 but Whitman engineered a six-play drive on the next series, capped by a 15-yard Paquette TD run.”We were a little flat at the beginning and they had their way with us up front,” Broderick said.
